We like SaaS, online marketplaces, AI, and blockchain companies, but we welcome other models as long as your product is highly reliant on technology.

We invest nationally in startups creating solutions within the areas of finance, education, healthcare, sustainability, infrastructure, and within specific cultural communities (i.e. Black, female haircare).

While we have a mandate to support Black founders, Black-led startups, and we also invest in entrepreneurs with diverse backgrounds and teams .

Frequently Asked Questions
We invest in early-stage software companies or companies with very strong technical solutions; generally having a SaaS, B2B, or marketplace business model.
We do not invest in regulated businesses such as drug development or medical devices, hardware companies in general, consumer goods, real estate, non-profits, etc.
Your company should be raising its first institutional round, have 10x-100x growth potential, and a clear path to ~$1m revenue in a year using a first round of financing.
Your company should be Black-led and/or have a strong team of diverse leaders. You and your team must be eager to learn and open to coaching/mentoring – “know what you don’t know.”
We may consider international investments in the future, but for the foreseeable future we will focus on US-based startups. These may, however, have international business models or customer bases.
No. Though there is a focus on Black-led startups, we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with founding teams of all races, genders, and sexual orientations. We are striving to build as diverse a portfolio as possible.
We only invest in fully funded rounds – i.e., if we’re providing $500k of $1m, then the full $1m must be committed. If you have not already sourced the remaining capital, then we’ll help you find like-minded investors to fill out the round.
Just like any other fund, we expect to deliver top-quartile returns to our investors; we’re looking for the “best of the best” companies that can grow 10x-100x and exit for >$100m each.
Black Tech Nation is a fiscally sponsored non-profit organization aiming to build a digital ecosystem for Black technologists, entrepreneurs, and professionals in tech (visit website). The two are completely separate entities, but work together under the Black Tech Nation umbrella.
